It’s been a month since the last update. Sometimes life (and work) gets in the way. I’d love to put some more time and effort into this, but at the moment, the bi-weekly sessions are all I can manage.

The night started with me failing to cut a proper sound hole reinforcement *twice*. Only the third attempt was successful. I need to get this stuff together, because I’m starting to worry about the more difficult things up ahead.

Once the reinforcement was cut, I sawed the maple bridge plate into the proper shape and glued these to parts onto the top in a go-bar deck.

The second part of the night was spent on the neck. After selecting a nice mahogany blank, it was roughtly thicknessed. Definitely a nice piece of almost quartered wood.

While many builders use one-piece carved necks, we build using a two-pieced neck with a scarf joint. For some general info about the difference and pro’s and cons, take a look at this discussion.

A great page showing whe complete procedure in detail is found here. I think i got lucky. I managed to get the blank sawn, planed down, dry fitted and glued up in about an hour and a half. I hope it comes out of its clamps straight, but I’ll have to wait for the next session to see.

Here’s a shot of the clamping setup as I left it:
